PRX Print Artwork File Guidelines/Checklist

At PRX Print, we want to make the artwork submission process as simple as possible. Our pricing is based on receiving high-resolution, print-ready pdf or eps files, and we include one pdf proof with all orders. Files not meeting the following requirements may be rejected, or assigned an additional art charge before proceeding. We may minimally alter files that will not meet our press requirements to maintain print quality on your finished product. Following this guide will help eliminate any delays in the production of your job.

Please pay close attention to these top three most common art issues.

Missing fonts*, missing images* and/or lack of clearance/bleed* account for the majority of issues with incoming artwork.

*Fonts

Convert all text to outlines. Ensure all text is larger than 3pt sans serif, 4pt serif, 4pt reverse.

*Images

Embed all images. Image resolution should be a minimum of 300ppi to ensure the best print quality.

*Clearance/Bleed

A minimum of 1/16” clearance within the die line is required for images not bleeding.

A minimum of 1/16” bleed outside the die line is required for images that meet the die line or bleed off the die line.

Colour Format

Document Colour Mode must be set to CMYK. RGB is not an acceptable mode and cannot be guaranteed to match when converted.

If a spot colour match is desired, include that Pantone Colour in your file and specify on your PO to colour match.

Otherwise, your file should not include any spot colours and will print a combination of CMYK where required.

Confirm that colour separations are supplied properly. See Separations Preview / Overprint Preview below.

Lines

Minimum line thickness is .3pt positive, .4pt reverse.

Barcodes

Black is the only colour of barcode that we can guarantee to scan, no smaller than 80% scale.

Barcodes should always be vector image.

We test every barcode to ensure scannability, and our normal procedure is to recreate any barcode which does not scan.

Separations Preview / Overprint Preview

Separations Preview / Overprint Preview are valuable tools in Illustrator or Acrobat.

Be sure that white or light coloured components are not set to overprint. This will result in missing images.

Ink Separations must be supplied correctly, with desired spot colours separated from CMYK.

Please use these tools to quality check your overprints, separations and entire art file prior to submitting for production.
